Supporting an Enterprise GIS with Open Source Expertise
Yilgarn Iron
Yilgarn Iron engaged us to provide specialist open source GIS expertise alongside their established enterprise GIS team. We brought experience from working with QGIS, PostGIS and other open source technologies, helping the team explore approaches that had worked well for other organisations and projects.

Sharing open source GIS expertise
Yilgarn has an established enterprise GIS environment and an experienced GIS team. Mammoth was brought in to provide specialist expertise in open source geospatial technologies and an external perspective on their GIS environment.
A key part of the engagement was knowledge sharing. We drew on our experience working with QGIS, PostGIS and open source GIS environments to demonstrate approaches, tools and workflows that had worked well in other projects.
This included working through data modelling and migration, establishing PostGIS, and deploying QGIS-related assets within the existing enterprise GIS environment.
The work gave the Yilgarn team access to specialist open source GIS knowledge while keeping their existing systems and internal expertise at the centre.
Working alongside an established GIS team
The engagement was deliberately focused and practical. Mammoth provided targeted technical expertise where it was useful, while the Yilgarn team retained ownership of their GIS environment and day-to-day operations.
It was a good example of where specialist open source knowledge can complement an established enterprise GIS team, bringing in experience from elsewhere without needing to replace what's already working.
